Late Night of Highs and Lows

I have to say that it is always great to hear Nick Nickson's voice come through the computer speakers to signal that it's time for hockey in Los Angeles. In another life, I was in Southern California and could not wait for Nickson to begin another Kings broadcast.

And now the low light. Slash played the "Star Spangled Banner" tonight. The man has skills, I'll give you that. But his performance cannot compare with what you get when you see what you get in Montreal, Detroit, Chicago or Philadelphia.

You don't a sustained roar from the crowd once the song is over. The rink gets quiet for the song, and then the joint is dead until things get interesting. Sounds more like a golf match, actually. That's not good for the home team.

Still, it's hockey in the Southland, and that works just fine for me, even though I am all the way across the country.
