The Decision Is In

I declared myself a free-agent fan last week, casting about for a rooting interest in the playoffs. I have come to terms with two teams. A little odd, I know, but as us free agents like to say, I feel this is the best fit for me.
In the Eastern Conference playoffs, I will be cheering for the Ottawa Senators. This is something of an emotional decision, since I went to school in Ottawa when they didn't have an NHL team. It was the 67's or nothing in those days. But if they had the Senators, I would have been making the trek out to Kanata. In a sense, I guess I'm making up for lost time with this move. And hoping that Brian Elliott can stand on his head a couple of times.
In the Western Conference, I am aligning with the Detroit Red Wings. This is more of a calculated call: the Wings were rolling down the stretch, winning 16 of 21 games, and their puck-possession style is a marvel to watch at any time of the season, particularly the playoffs.
Of course, if neither of these pan out, I can always jump to another team, right?
