The End of the Hossa Curse

A friend of mine is picking the Flyers to win the Stanley Cup final, in part because of what he believes to be The Curse of Marian Hossa. This will be Hossa’s third consecutive Stanley Cup final – all of them playing for a different team – and he has lost the previous two. It’s interesting information but I don’t think Hossa has that much karma to orchestrate these things. Of course, scoring twice in 16 playoff games provides its own karma.

Hossa, aside, the Blackhawks have depth, firepower, speed and enough bruisers to overpower the Flyers. Once all those elements are brought to bear on the Philadelphia defense, it could make for a short series. Chris Pronger, like Hossa, playing in a third final with a third team (at least he has won a Cup), will be one weary customer after this series.

In their unexpected run to the final, the Flyers have not seen anything like Chicago’s attack. The Hawks, meanwhile, have dispatched two pretty good teams in Vancouver and San Jose, and have done so with some authority. There is nothing about the Flyers that suggests they can derail Chicago at this point.

Blackhawks over Flyers in five games.
