The Shot: 11/30

The Los Angeles Kings have come back to the pack and the Detroit Red Wings are probably sitting in the seat at the bar that they plan to hold for the rest of the year, if not the regular season.

In the East, I like the way the Montreal Canadiens and Philadelphia Flyers are barking at each other, on and off the ice. Now if only the Canadiens can keep their heads above water for the whole season. And how about Atlanta. No team has a bigger fan base than the Thrashers, that is, if you count the hands raised in Winnipeg, Hamilton and Quebec City.

Good things are fixing to come out of the kitchen in the next month or two. The world junior championships in Buffalo, the Winter Classic in Pittsburgh and the revived Heritage Classic in February, with the Calgary Flames as your host. The Canadiens will be playing in their second VERY COLD ONE, having played at Edmonton the last time the NHL held a winter picnic in Canada.

Here's the rewind from Monday night. Only the NHL was in action.

NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE
Pittsburgh 3, at N.Y. Rangers 1
Dallas 4, at Carolina 1
Edmonton 4, at Ottawa 1
At Calgary 3, Minnesota 0
At Anaheim 2, Los Angeles 0
